My Grandmother has retired from work. That's not really an usual thing, but my Grandmother is 83 and worked in her position for 30 years! My Grandmother has moved in with my Mama. That IS an unusual thing. She has always been active, healthy, spunky and extremely independent. After my Granddaddy died about 19 years ago, she moved from the farm house to a house in town. It was a small town in West Tennessee. She is still healthy, except for the herniated disk that started this chapter of the story. I think all it really took to get her to move was a stern voice from my mother and up she moved.
Now, I'm thinking I really should have attended the seminar on The Sandwhich Generation at the recent Convention I attended. It was just so overwhelming that Mama didn't know where to start. She is always the one that has been in charge, or even my Grandmother with directions, but this time it was me. Everything was moved without me. No problem. That was where it stopped. Mama was very stressed out and didn't know which way to turn. That's where I jumped into the production and started in the room that was the ultimate spot to get the ball rolling, my Grandmother's new bedroom.
After a day of moving furniture out of the room, shuffling items from one room to another, we got her bedroom suit in. It is cherry, queen sized and beautiful. It is set up as close to her old room as possible, down to the T.V. and her prized jewerly box, with every piece of jewelry Avon has ever sold! Her clothes fill up a closet, 5 large garmet bags and a full size bed is loaded with things on hangers. The woman is a clothes horse!
I think things are beginning to settle down for a bit. The garage is a bit more manuverable, the living room is not as crowded as it was and my Grandmother's things are going where she would like them. The POD is the next thing to tackle, with enough Christmas decoartions in it to make Santa jealous. We are hoping the weather cools down a little first, but if not, it will literally be Christmas in July in my Mama's yard.
Wish us luck with our next project!
